The European Water Label wins a major award
29/07/2014 | Key to the success of the development of the European Water Label has been its unshakable commitment to educating and informing the public of the advantages of choosing bathroom products listed in its online database. In recognition of its campaign to help both industry professionals and consumers reduce their water and energy consumption the Bathroom Manufacturers Association, which administers The Water Label Company, has won a major award in the Environment Agency and Waterwise Water Efficiency Awards 2014. The award was given in the Campaigns & Education category. The European Water Label, which was developed by the BMA and is entirely voluntary, can now be seen on bathroom and kitchen products across 28 European countries, plus Russia, Switzerland, Turkey and Israel. It is supported by almost 70 major bathroom brands with over 6500 products listed on its website. The European Water Label is also supported by the major builders merchants and retailers, the media, Water Utilities and over 1000 national stockists. “We are absolutely delighted,” says Yvonne Orgill, Chief Executive of the Bathroom Manufacturers Association. “It’s taken a number of years of hard work and determination by many people, particularly the staff of the BMA, to get The Water Label to this level of success and it’s wonderful to be given the recognition for it.” The Environment Agency and Waterwise UK Water Efficiency Awards 2014 are a celebration of the achievements of public, private and third sector organisations that ‘Shout’ about water efficiency, ‘Solve’ water demand management challenges and simply ‘Save’ water. Jacob Tompkins, Managing Director of Waterwise, said “many congratulations go to the BMA for having the foresight and drive to develop the European Water Label scheme. They won the Campaigns and Education category which was particularly tough and with many entries. The Water Label won because it has grown into a huge project of major importance not only in the UK but also across Europe. It is supported by our government, the European Commission, manufacturers and distributors. Members of the BMA deserve the recognition because of their enthusiasm and participation in getting this scheme to its current important position. Receiving the award were Yvonne Orgill, CEO of the BMA, far left, and Peter Pegden the New Business Director of Croydex*, member of the BMA’s management team, and CEIR** board member. Presenting the award was Karen Burrows, board member of the Environment Agency. The European Water Label and its accompanying Water Calculator is used by architects and specifiers as the preferred source of information for identifying water usage characteristics of water using products.
